Treadmill test

The treadmill test or stress electrocardiogram is a type of study that is used to measure the heart's response to certain levels of exertion or physical exercise. The test consists of monitoring the readings generated by the electrocardiogram while the person performs physical exercise on a treadmill or a stationary bike.

As the test is performed, the levels of exercise demand will be increased to compare the effects it has on the heart. This will be done at gradual intervals until a heart rate has been previously determined according to the age and physical state of the person, or until the person cannot continue due to fatigue, shortness of breath, pain, or other causes.

For what reasons is this test performed?

This test is performed for the study of ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, diseases of the heart valves, or simply to evaluate the functional status of the patient.

It is important that when you go to the study you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
