Pacemaker Implantation
Pacemaker in Guadalajara
The definitive pacemaker is a cardiac stimulation device, which is mainly designed for patients who have a problem with the driving system. This problem is characterized by a decreased heart rate, which generates a wide variety of symptoms such as fainting or dizziness (see Bradyarrhythmias).
The function of these devices is to bring the heartbeat to normal by sending electrical impulses. These devices are necessary when the patient's heart fails to maintain a normal heart rate. The device detects when the heart does not receive the right stimulus and can generate it to reach the correct heart rate.
This procedure is performed through a surgical intervention, with a wound of less than 5 cm in length. Using a needle, the subclavian vein is punctured (under the collarbone, usually on the left side) and a thin wire is advanced towards the heart, which is used as a rail to subsequently advance the devices. The advanced cables, called stimulation electrodes, are fixed to the heart either using anchors or employing a screw, with which they are fixed to it. The electrodes are connected to the pacemaker generator, and it is buried under the skin, being fixed by sutures.
We have extensive experience in performing various types of device implants and we work in most of the hospitals in Guadalajara that have a hemodynamic room. We also offer a follow-up consultation for patients who have previously been implanted with a device, which allows the operation of the device to be adapted to the particular needs of each patient.
